Title: Regrouping at the Office
Pairing/Characters: Don, Ian, Megan
Rating: PG
Prompt: #164 Blunt
Word Count: 300
Disclaimer: I don't own Numb3rs.
Series: Buried Demons
Summary: Ian thinks its his fault that the suspect got away. Megan thinks he's being ridiculous.
“Megan! I’m glad I caught you. I need to go with you when you talk to the victim.” Don said rushing into the office.
Megan shook her head. “I already went. Grandparents wouldn’t let me see him.”
“What? Megan, we need his statement. More now than ever, we lost the guy in the woods.” Don told her urgently.
Megan looked up from her desk, taking in the almost manic energy seeming to surround her boss and the dark gaze of the sniper flanking him. “How? David said you guys had him cornered when he called earlier.”
“Yeah, well, apparently not.” Don said curtly and stalked off to the break room for coffee.
Megan turned to the sniper next. He was watching Don, and Megan didn’t quite know what to make of the expression he wore. She cleared her throat to draw his attention and arched an eyebrow, seeking answers that her wound up boss clearly wasn’t going to give.
Ian scowled at her. “We left the local sheriff in charge of the perimeter overnight and our guy slipped out. It was stupid. We should have pushed it last night. Don wanted to, but I convinced him that we could wait. It was my fault.” He admitted, dropping into a desk chair.
Megan didn’t let her surprise at that admission show. Edgerton always struck her as the type to never admit to being wrong. Something was definitely up. “Yeah. Going in last night would have worked out so well. You and the other three cornering a desperate criminal after days of pursuit, running on nothing but caffeine and lack of sleep. You probably would have shot each other.”
Ian just shrugged tiredly. “Yeah, well, didn’t happen, so we’re going to have to do this your way, Reeves. What thrilling insights can you give us to our suspect?”
